Part 1: Electrical and Regulatory Compliance for Power Adapters
When exporting aroma diffusers and scent machines to global markets—such as Bulgaria and the broader European Union—the external or built-in power adapters must comply with stringent electrical safety, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), energy efficiency, and environmental mandates.
1. European Union (CE Certification Framework)
- Safety (LVD Directive): Must comply with EN 62368-1 (the benchmark safety standard for audio, video, information, and communication technology equipment) or EN 61558-1 / EN 61558-2-16 for power transformers and supply units.
- Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC Directive): Requires compliance with EN 55032 / EN 55014-1 (electromagnetic emissions) and EN 55035 / EN 55014-2 (immunity testing), alongside harmonic current limits (EN 61000-3-2 / EN 61000-3-3).
- Energy & Environment: Must meet the ErP Directive (EU) 2019/1782 for external power supply eco-design, alongside RoHS and REACH regulations restricting hazardous chemical substances.
2. Other Key Export Markets
- North America: Requires compliance with UL 62368-1 or UL 1310 (Class 2 low-voltage power units), FCC Part 15 Subpart B (Class B) for radio frequency interference, and DoE Level VI energy efficiency standards. Canadian imports typically require CSA C22.2 No. 62368-1 (via cUL or cTUVus markings).
- United Kingdom: Post-Brexit compliance requires the UKCA mark, aligned with standards like BS EN 62368-1.
- Australia & New Zealand: Requires RCM certification conforming to AS/NZS 62368.1 with EESS database registration.
- Japan: Power adapters must pass the Diamond PSE certification under the Electrical Appliance and Material Safety Act (e.g., J62368-1).
